Kei Nishikori withdraws from New York Open

Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori, 30, won't be making his second appearance at the New York Open this year after withdrawing from the event.
Nishikori, ranked at No. 18 in the world, hasn't played since undergoing an elbow surgery in October.
The 30-year-old hoped he would recover in time for the beginning of the new season but unfortunately that wasn't the case as he was forced to miss the ATP Cup and Australian Open.
Nishikori, a former world No. 4, took part at the inaugural edition of New York Open in 2018.
The 30-year-old had a promising run in his New York Open debut but he fell short of winning it all.
Back then, the Japanese won three matches to reach the semifinal, before losing to Kevin Anderson of South Africa.
It remains to be seen when will 2014 US Open runner-up Nishikori be ready to return to action.
Following the withdrawal of Nishikori, a place in the New York Open main draw has opened for Bosnian Damir Dzumhur, who has no previous appearances at the tournament.
