Stefanos Tsitsipas to Felix Auger-Aliassime: I feel like you make me a better player
World No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas made an interesting claim after beating seventh-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final at the Open 13 Provence as he feels the rising Canadian star makes him a better player.
Tsitsipas, who claimed his maiden Marseille title last year, captured back-to-back titles at the tournament this Sunday after easing past Auger-Aliassime 6-3 6-4.
The 19-year-old Canadian won the first two meetings between the two but Tsitsipas ended on the winning side in their last two encounters to level their head-to-head to 2-2.
"It’s great to be fighting on the court against you,” Tsitsipas said at the trophy presentation, per Reuters UK. “I feel like you make me a better player and I hope I make you too.”
After claiming the first break of the match in the sixth game for a 4-2 lead, second-seeded Tsitsipas saved three break points when serving for the set in the ninth game to earn the opener.
Auger-Aliassime recovered from a break down in the second set but once again struggled on his serve as the Greek made no mistake on his serve after claiming his second break of the set in the seventh game.
