Doubles star Pierre-Hugues Herbert aims singles success

French world No. 71 Pierre-Hugues Herbert feels his singles career has been progressing well for the last few years and he hopes his best days are ahead of him. 

The 29-year-old Frenchman has had lots of success in doubles as he has claimed a Career Grand Slam with fellow compatriot Nicolas Mahut. 

Herbert, a former doubles world No. 2, enjoyed his best season in singles last year, when he achieved a singles career-high ranking of No. 36 in the world. 

Last year, the Frenchman ended runner-up in Montpellier and made ATP semifinals on two separate occasions. 

"For two or three years, I have really felt that I have made progress in singles, and I am not far from making a big move. And I look forward to it," Herbert said, as revealed on We Love Tennis France.

After winning the Australian Open and collecting a Career Grand Slam with Mahut, Herbert announced he wouldn't team up with his close friend in the next Grand Slams because he wanted to focus on his singles career. 

The relationship between the two was a bit damaged after Herbert accepted Andy Murray's invitation to play doubles at Wimbledon but the Frenchmen worked things out returned to the court later that year. 

This year, Herbert was 7-5 at the ATP level before the Tour was suspended until at least July 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak. 

The Frenchman made two quarterfinals this season as he enjoyed solid runs in Doha and Montpellier.
