Famous German footballer: 'Roger Federer impresses me a lot'

The rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is one of the most intense in the history of sport. During the four-year period 2004-2007 Federer registered a domain that has never had precedents in the history of men's tennis. His total score over this period is a stratospheric 315–24 (92.9% of wins), but a paltry 6-8 against Nadal, the only man to have a winning head to head against him.

Nadal prevented the Swiss tennis player from completing the Grand Slam in 2006 and 2007. Federer and Nadal hold consecutive success records on the three most used playing surfaces on the circuit (81 on red clay for Nadal, 56 on hard court and 65 on the grass for Federer).

In 2019 Federer and Nadal have met twice, with each one prevailing once. They met in the semifinal of the French Open with Nadal ending Federer's 5-match winning streak by prevailing in straight sets, before going on to win the tournament for his twelfth title there.

In their first Wimbledon meeting since 2008, they met in semifinals of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships, where Federer defeated Nadal in four sets. This meeting between Federer and Nadal was the oldest by combined age of competitors (71 years, 0 months) in the open era of tennis.

In a recent interview, German footballer Joshua Kimmich had a lot to say about tennis and tennis players like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal: “Roger Federer impresses me a lot. He represents elegance, class, and is a role model. He is also a gentleman and a fair competitor. Those are just things I enjoy. The fact that someone so successful feels very little envy, it is almost as though everybody likes him. I like Rafael Nadal too.”
