ATP schedules Zoom call with players to discuss faith of season

Per report, the ATP Tour has invited players to a Zoom call scheduled for June 10, in which they will discuss the faith of the season.

The ATP initially suspended the Tour for six weeks on March 12 but shortly after extended the Tour suspension through to June 7.

On April 1, the ATP extended the Tour suspension through to July 13, before announcing there wouldn't be any Tour events taking place until at least early-August.

The decision on the summer hard-court season was expected to be made on June 1 but the ATP representatives have given themselves more time to decide on what to do next.

The ATP will put focus on staging the biggest events

A tennis return in July wasn't something players expected to see and the ATP eventually extended the Tour suspension through to July 31.

"Due to continued uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to announce our decision to extend the suspension of the Tour,” ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said in May 15. “Just like tennis fans, players and tournament hosts all over the world, we share in the disappointment the Tour continues to be affected in this way. We continue to assess all of our options in an effort to resume the Tour as soon as it is safe to do so, including the feasibility of rescheduling events later in the season. As ever, the health and well-being of the tennis community and wider public remains our top priority in every decision we make.”

Before the latest suspension, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi confirmed the ATP will be focused on staging the biggest events if tennis returns this year.

It remains to be seen if the ATP will be given green light to resume the season in early-August.
