Taylor Fritz's goals include becoming the No.1 ranked American player on the ATP Tour

American tennis player Taylor Fritz says he hopes to become the No. 1 ranked American player on the ATP Tour. 22 year old Fritz is currently ranked No. 24 in the world, which is three sports below the top-ranked American John Isner, who is No. 21 on the tour.

Taylor Fritz says he wants to become the No. 1 American on the tour

Speaking to the Olympic Channel, Fritz was asked about his upcoming goals, "The next short-term goal is to be top 20 and hopefully be the number one American soon. Then from there, I want to keep progressing to the top 15, top 10."

The American, who is working with American coach Paul Annacone, says he has been working hard on his fitness during the recent months of the lockdown. "I really feel like I've made big strides in my fitness on my game in the last two months. I've been having three-hour practices and then some days go and do tennis again or go and do gym (a second time). It just depends if it's like a double gym day or a double tennis day. I've just been absolutely killing myself these last couple weeks."

Fritz will be playing at both the Western & Southern Open and the US Open in New York and says he would be disappointed if he did not go deep in both the tournaments.  The American also added that he does not mind being in the US Open bubble as he usually prefers being in his hotel room anyways during tournaments. "I think staying in the room and ordering in every night and relaxing… I don't mind it. It will be more boring, but it's actually not going to be too different to what I normally do at a tournament anyway."

Tennis runs in the family for Fritz as both his parents were involved in the sport. His mother, Kathy May Fritz was a Top 10 player, and his father Guy Henry Fritz also played pro tennis and was later named US Olympic development coach of the year 2016. "My mom never really pushed too hard. I think with the tennis, she kind of left my dad to take the lead. And I don't think my mom really cared too much if I played or not. But always, like I said, she helped steer me in the right direction."

Taylor Fritz meets a qualifier in the opening round at the Western & Southern Open and could meet Chile's Cristian Garin in the second round.
