Roger Federer's Laver Cup to visit London's The O2 arena in 2022
The fourth edition of the Laver Cup should have gathered the world's leading players in Boston from today, with Team Europe seeking the fourth title under the guidance of the founder Roger Federer. Due to a coronavirus, the Laver Cup had to be postponed for 2021, with the organizers scheduling the next event in Boston between September 24-26 next year. With the current health situation, it was impossible to bring everything that Laver Cup has to offer to the crowd, and tennis lovers from Boston and all over the States will have to wait until September 2021 to see Roger Federer and other stars in action. On Friday, the organizers have confirmed London's The O2 arena as the fifth edition of the Laver Cup between September 23-25, 2022, with the British capital gathering the world's leading players at the current venue of the ATP Finals that will move to Turin from 2021.
Hosting the ATP Finals since 2009, The O2 arena has been one of three main stops in the men's tennis calendar, alongside Wimbledon and Queen's. Now, the crowd will have the opportunity to watch more relaxed and exciting team competition that should keep them on the edge of their seats. Lat September, Team Europe prevailed against Team World in the deciding match in Geneva to keep the beautiful trophy in their cabinet for the third straight year, making a proper celebration out of it. After the opening two encounters of the third and final day, Team World had the edge over their rivals. Federer had no room for errors versus John Isner, prevailing in two close sets to reduce the deficit and set all eyes on the last encounter between Alexander Zverev and Milos Raonic. It had to go down to the wire, and the German clinched the victory in the match tie break to secure the title for Team Europe for the second time in a row, wrapping up an incredible event in the most energetic style.
