Roger Federer: 'It's incredible to bring Laver Cup to one of my favorite cities'

The fourth edition of the Laver Cup should have started today in Boston, with Team Europe seeking the fourth title under the guidance of the founder Roger Federer. It turned out that Roger was the only confirmed player, with no time to introduce the other stars as the event had to be canceled due to a coronavirus and postponed for 2021. The next Laver Cup will occur between September 24-26 in Boston next year, and we already know what will happen in 2020. On Friday, the organizers have confirmed London's The O2 arena as the fifth Laver Cup venue between September 23-25, 2022. The British capital will gather the world's leading players at the ATP Finals' current arena, with the premium ATP event moving to Turin from 2021. Hosting the ATP Finals since 2009, The O2 arena has been one of three main stops in the men's tennis calendar, alongside Wimbledon and Queen's, offering a chance for the tennis lovers in the capital to enjoy high-quality tennis in June, July and November.

Now, the crowd will have the opportunity to watch the exciting team competition as the third European city after Prague and Geneva. Roger Federer said he is thrilled about the Laver Cup coming to London, one of his favorite places where he had so much success in the past. It all started in Geneva 2017, moving to Chicago in 2018 and Geneve a year ago. Team Europe has won all three titles, playing better when it mattered the most to keep the beautiful trophy in their hands, led by Roger, Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev.

In 2019, Team Europe prevailed against Team World in the deciding match in Geneva, celebrating in style after three exciting days. After the opening two encounters of the final day, Team World had the edge over their rivals, hoping to clinch the trophy for the first time. Federer prevailed over John Isner in two tight sets to reduce the deficit and set all eyes on Alexander Zverev and Milos Raonic's last encounter. It had to go down to the wire as they were neck and neck, with the German delivering the victory in the match tie break to secure the title for Team Europe for the second year in a row. We are yet to find out who will compete in Boston next September, but there's no double the field will be the strongest possible, gathering the leading stars from all over the world.
