France appoint Sebastien Grosjean as new Davis Cup captain

Sebastien Grosjean has been appointed as the new French Davis Cup Team Captain, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) announced on Monday.

Previous captain Yannick Noah made it clear that he would step down from the position after the 2018 season.

Noah, a former world No. 1, was the French captain for three years.

Noah's goal of helping France end its Davis Cup title drought was accomplished as France won its first title since 2001 when they beat Bem in the 2017 final.

During Noah's captaincy, France also made the semi-final in 2016 and ended runners-up in this year's final.

Noah's successor Grosjean won't have an easy job as France have set high goals when it comes to the Davis Cup.

Grosjean, a former four-time ATP singles champion and world No. 4, retired from tennis in 2010.

The 40-year-old has a coaching experience as he has since worked with a couple of players.

Grosjean worked with fellow compatriot Richard Gasquet from 2011 to 2016 before he had a brief stint with Australian rising star Nick Kyrgios in 2017.

Grosjean was a member of the French team that won the 2001 Davis Cup title.

Grosjean, who debuted in the Davis Cup in 1999, played for the French team until 2007.

Grosjean will now certainly be motivated to experience more Davis Cup success with France -- but this time as their coach.
