Novak Djokovic will break Roger Federer's Major titles record, says Stepanek
Radek Stepanek praised Novak Djokovic's comeback at the highest level. The Serb was world No. 22 in June after the French Open, then his raise started. 'The first results on grass suggested he had changed. After his win over Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals I had imagined he could have won', said Stepanek about Djokovic's Wimbledon win. Their relationship did not change after that they split: 'We stayed connected when my daughter was born. Our friendship is still there. He found his way again.'
Stepanek also backed Djokovic to overcome Roger Federer's Grand Slam titles record: 'He can break the 20-Major barrier, and I think he will do it. When I saw the Wimbledon semifinals with Rafa (Nadal), it was again the battle of two titans like at old times. Novak made a step forward mentally.'
Stepanek concluded: 'I think the departure of mine and Agassi waked up him. Marian had been with him for ten years and he is well-based in his team. The relationship is very important in the team. Novak can still improve.'
Asked if it hurt him to stop working with Djokovic after such a short time, Stepanek added: 'It needed to hapoen. Things always happen for a reason in life. We are still great friends and this is the most important thing. He played better after that', concluded the 2006 Wimbledon quarter-finalist.
