Radek Stepanek opens up on his future after splitting with Novak Djokovic
In a recent interview, the former world No. 8 Radek Stepanek commented again on the reasons that led him to split with Novak Djokovic earlier this year. The Serb would eventually be coached by his longtime coach Marian Vajda again to win two Grand Slams in a row. Stepanek admitted he accepted Djokovic's request being in the unknown: 'I did not even imagine it, because I did not know that he would have wished for', said Stepanek, who retired from tennis due to a back injury. 'Naturally the end of my career would have come. I saw athletes who had a career and then they struggled to have a normal life again, they struggled in the transition. They do not know what do after a career, or they invest money on wrong projects. So, I wanted to avoid all this and I needed to prepare for it a little before.'
Stepanek was also asked if he plans to coach another player in the short or long term: 'I will not coach now. I stopped working with Novak at the end of March, and now I do not plan anything. As I said, I will be fully focused on my family, because it's the most unique and Important thing in my life. When we will be based, then I am happy to be back to tennis.'
Djokovic will start his 2019 ATP Season at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.
