Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Simona Halep named top 10 athletes of 2018
L'Equipe announced the best ten athletes for the 2018 year, and an interesting list came out. The American gymnast Simone Biles won for the second time after 2016. 'She will never forget the 2018', said Biles. 'After revealing the sexual abuse she got, she came back stronger than ever in her sport after stopping for a year.'
Biles ended up being ahead of the American skier Mikaela Shiffrin and the Czech skier, snowboarder Ester Ledecka. The Norwegian Marit Bjoergen (ski) and the British athlete Dina Asher-Smith respectively follow as fourth and fifth. Romania's tennis player is not there.
As for men, the Austrian skier Marcel Hirscher won, followed by the tennis player Novak Djokovic (second) and the British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton (third). Kevin Mayer is fourth, followed by the French football star Kylian Mbappé. Biathlon legend Martin Fourcade, footballers Raphaël Varane and Antoine Griezmann follow. Rafael Nadal ended tenth, he won his 11th French Open title in Paris this year defeating Dominic Thiem in a straight-set final.
