Nick Kyrgios visits hospital in Brisbane to put smiles on kids faces

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios visited a hospital ahead of his Brisbane International campaign to try to put smiles on kids faces.

The 23-year-old, who has his own foundation which helps underprivileged kids, met with kids at Ronald McDonald House in Brisbane.

Kyrgios, a four-time champion, spent a few days in the hospital last week after getting bitten by a spider.

"It's a massive reality check for me ... it's very sad and emotional," Kyrgios said after his visit to Ronald McDonald House, per The Sydney Morning Herald.

"If they're massive tennis fans, to see us maybe it will give them some hope and belief that they can get through it. Anyone per cent can help.

"I'm doing the same thing with my foundation. Hopefully just giving people home and giving them a family and a bit of belief they can do great things."

Meanwhile, Kyrgios appears to have recovered from the bite as he has been drawn to meet American Ryan Harrison in the Brisbane first round.

The Australian made it all the way in Brisbane last year after beating Harrison in the final.

However, it remains to be seen will Kyrgios feel the consequences of the bite this week.

Kyrgios won't have an easy job of defending his title as world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, former world No. 1 Andy Murray and 2017 champion Grigor Dimitrov are also playing the tournament.
