Roger Federer: 'I didn't know what to expect before visiting The Pinnacles'

In a recent interview, following his win over Cameron Norrie Roger Federer shared his thoughts on visiting The Pinnacles in Western Australia. The Swiss player said: 'I don't know how many people from Perth have been to the Pinnacles themselves, because in Switzerland you don't do the tourist stuff, we leave that up to the tourists. It was nice to see, it was beautiful. I did not know what to expect first, it was nice to be there. I love being in nature a lot, in the mountains or at the beach, so that was a nice place to visit. So go there.'

Federer was also asked on how it feels for him to defend titles like at the upcoming Australian Open: 'Defending is easier than winning the first time. You gotta break it, you get a crack at once and once you know how that works the second time you know the technique. It's the same with winning a tournament and then the next time you feel more confident, you have different goals as well, you don't come here just to participate. I have got a lot of defending to do this Australian summer.'

Federer also shared his joy for how the opening match win against Cameron Norrie was: 'It's good, I am very happy. It's just different intensity playing in front of a big crowd on a big court, live TV, you feel the nerves which is good. It's a bigger excitement. Warming up on the outside courts is never going to feel the same with the wind blowing and you don't have the rhythm and you don't see the ball as clear because of the fence and all the things happening around the trees and bushes blowing. It's different than on a court where it's perfect backdrop and everything nice and clean. I am very happy that I was able to come out tonight and really put in a good performance.'
