David Goffin joins Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur at Libema Open

The 30th edition of the Libema Open in s-Hertogenbosch will kick off on June 10, marking the beginning of the grass season together with Stuttgart. After Stefanos Tsitsipas, Robin Haase, Alex de Minaur, Lleyton Hewitt and Jordan Thompson (they will play the doubles together), the organizers have announced another big name that should fight for the title in the opening round of the first grass swing stop, with 2015 finalist David Goffin entering the title chase. The Belgian is a former top-10 player, winning four ATP titles from 11 finals and competing for the ATP Finals crown in 2017 when he was in great form.

The following 2018 was not that good by any means, struggling with injuries and form to score just 28 wins and finish outside the top-20, hoping to bounce back this year under his old coach Thomas Johansson. Ranked in the top-30 for the last four and a half years, David has been one of the most consistent players on the Tour, improving various elements in his games to be competitive on every surface. After playing in three ATP finals in 2014, the next came in s-Hertogenbosch during his third trip to this event, defeating Jurgen Melzer, Illya Marchenko and Gilles Muller before losing to Nicolas Mahut in the title match.

Goffin played well in the opening set before dropping the tie break and allowing the Frenchman to march on towards the finish line from there, missing a chance to win the maiden crown on the fastest surface. Later that year, David reached the fourth round at Wimbledon where Stan Wawrinka halted him in three tight sets, advancing into the quarter-final in Halle and the last 16 at Wimbledon again 12 months later. David was forced to skip the grass season in 2017 after that terrible injury at Roland Garros and the results were not that good last year either, hitting the exit door early at both Queen's and Wimbledon, seeking much better run during 2019 grass swing that he will open at Libema Open.
