Dominic Thiem's win over Federer was one of best match ever - Mother
In an interview, Karin Thiem commented on his son Dominic's success in the Indian Wells final over Roger Federer. "I saw the match and it was one of the best matches I ever saw", said Karim. "And believe me, I saw a lot of matches. We are all very happy to have Nico on the team. He motivates people and the work they have been doing in the last three weeks seems good. As a former top ten player and singles and doubles Olympic winner, Nico has a lot of on-court experience and you note it. I just knew Nico during the Davis Cup tie between Austria and Chile. There I like his way to motivate people. Then I saw him in person and I think he is a lovely person who cares a lot about all the team members."
Thanks to Massu, in the Indian Wells final a lot of Chilean fans were on the ground. "This game is unbelievable! People getting closer without any kind of connection, that's great. Dominic will be happy to have more Chilean fans now. I heard that Chile is one of the best countries in the world and that it has an amazing starred sky. The Chilean wine? I heard about it, even though I never tasted it. In Austria, we have the best wine in the world."
On how it felt to win such an important event for the first time, Thiem added: "I was also pretty close in Madrid in the last two years but now it was almost like winning a Grand Slam because I had to beat Milos, who has a strong gamestyle, and Roger who is one of the biggest legends in the game and that's the tricky and difficult part in these tournaments. You have to beat one of the biggest stars. It definitely feels good to have this 1000 title on my belt."
