I would have loved to face Kohlschreiber at night, says Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic would have loved to play his third round match against Philipp Kohlschreiber just at night, which was supposed to happen on Monday, but the rain halted it until Tuesday after playing just one game. After his 6-4 6-4 loss, the 15-time Grand Slam winner said: “I liked my chances more at night against Kohlschreiber, but it wasn't to be last night. It was raining. But [it was] completely different conditions today. [The] ball bounces much higher. Obviously, he uses his spin very well. I wasn't playing well. One of those days. I congratulate him for playing tactically really well and getting me out of my comfort zone. He deserved to win. He's been around for so many years, and he doesn't really get overwhelmed by the occasion of playing on centre court or anything like that. He's proven he can win against top guys. It's not really a surprise… When he's feeling the ball on a given day, he can really win against anybody on any surface for that matter."
Nick Kyrgios believes that Kohlschreiber deserves full credit for his straight-set win over Novak Djokovic. The journalist Craig Gabriel hinted at a Serb's physical issue to explain the low performance he delivered on Tuesday. But through Twitter, just before the match ended, Kyrgios, who was beaten by Kohlschreiber in the opening round in Indian Wells, wrote: "Lol yeah, something has to be wrong with him right? I lose to Kholi and get absolutely shredded ‘same old Kyrgios’ how about the guy is just good? And he knows how to win matches? Hate this, why we always gotta kiss these guys when they lose.
Kohlschreiber feels he is a really solid player. Speaking after the win, the 35-year-old said: "If you're not able to really hit through me, I'm able to create a lot of angles, topspin, speed on both sides. If I'm feeling well or have good timing, it's not easy to make points against me. And especially the slower conditions, which helps me to get better timing, I'm able to create a lot of power on slow balls, which also helps me to create a lot of speeds on these conditions."
