Roger Federer:'At first I thought 2008 loss to Nadal was my worst day ever'
Speaking on Streak of The Genius programme, Roger Federer recalled his 2008 Wimbledon final loss to Rafael Nadal. Federer came back from two sets to love down but he eventually ended up losing 9-7 in the fifth set. "The first two sets when I look back at that final, it's like I played them but maybe I was a bit... I am not sure if I really believed that I was going to win the match. My problem was that I had lost the French Open finals one month earlier against Rafa in a terrible way. I believe the rain delay probably woke me up, I said, If we are gonna go out of this match, at least you are gonna down swinging and really start to wake up", said Federer.
On how he went through the loss, Federer added: "In the moment itself I was like, Oh my god, this is the worst day of my life. Maybe three, four, five, six, seven weeks after the match, I really started to feel the truth of the match.Eventually I realized, There is something good to take out of these situations. So I may have to adjust my game a little bit. I do not like to do that per se but why not, let's go."
On how to deal with friendship and rivalry, Federer added: "In tennis you have to put your opponent away. We always have to win the last point to get over the finish line, but all the little decision we have to take in every point, every game, match and tournament, there are so many of them. In tennis it's a constant problem solving and you always have to look for solutions."
