Roger Federer is not in the mix to win US Open, says Rusedski

Speaking on Amazon, the former world No. 4 Greg Rusedski commented on the US Open favorites. The British pundit said: "The obvious favorite needs to be Novak Djokovic. Rafa played so well in Montreal this year and last year in Toronto and if the knee is okay, he has got a real shot to win the title. Roger Federer, I can't take him on the mix cause he only got two matches going in. He can get to the semis or quarters but I do not see him going all the way to the finals. I think Djokovic or Nadal. And the young generation. Medvedev, Dominic Thiem as well, has been very good on the hard courts."

Federer is already hitting the Arthur Ashe Stadium, he had a three-hour training session on Saturday.

Rusedski added: "To win the title, it’s two guys. Djokovic or Nadal. Will they make it quick for the Americans [like] Isner and players like that? Will they keep it as slow as last year? That also adds a dimension to the tournament. If they make it quick, that puts Federer back in the mix. If conditions were like last year, I can’t see it."

Speaking of Andy Murray, he concluded: "If you are not physically ready, he knows where he is with his recovery and exactly what he is doing so we will probably know more by 2020, if he enters the Australian Open, how far he has come. If he can get his movement back, that is the big question mark. He is still not up to the speed he once was but that is normal having only recently played his first singles game back."
