'Nadal is a bigger favorite than Federer at Australian, French Opens' -Toni
In an interview Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni spoke about his nephew's hand injury after wirhdrawing from the Laver Cup in Geneva on Sunday. The 58-year-old said: "Rafa is doing well, he withdrew from his last match thinking about not forcing too much in order to be safe in the last part of the season. Sometimes you have a little issue, you are not too careful about it and in the end you have a big problem. By resting a bit, he will be doing well. The ATP Finals would be the icing on the cake, because he never won there and he would also like to the end the season as a world No. 1. He is a bigger favorite than Federer to win Australian Open and French Open."
On Nadal's recent US Open title, Toni added: "I felt a big happiness when I saw him lifting his 19th Grand Slam Trophy because I was worried in the match starting from the third set, when Rafa dropped his level, the situation got worse and starting from there Medvedev played better. But once Rafa won, I was very happy. Now I see matches as his uncle and not a coach anymore, even if my 27 years with him are on my mind and I always wish for the best."
Toni also praised Rafael: "It's not the coach that makes the player good but the contrary. Guardiola would not have won six titles in 2009 if Messi was not doing that well."
He concluded: "A Mallorcan politics man told me that Rafa is a good example of fairness and respect towards the opponents. I told him that it's interesting they do not behave that way. I would vote for him if he behaved like Rafael does."
