With Rod Laver and Roger Federer behind, Laver Cup is a bummer - McEnroe
In a press conference the Team World John McEnroe praised the Laver Cup. The seven-time Grand Slam winner, who will be the captain in Boston 2020 too, said: "I think it deserves it for those who have seen it the last three years. It's one of the best events. I can't really think of an event or something new that has happened in the sport over the course of the last couple of years better than this. I am a team guy but hopefully the Davis Cup is successful, that's a radical change, they have another event. The Olympics... There seems to be so many team events. But when you have Rod Laver and Roger Federer behind this to where they have been and the excitement that people see, it's a bummer. But it's an awesome event."
On the crowd supporting the Team Europe as it took place in Switzerland, McEnroe added: "We have great chemistry and energy but the energy and the crowd was incredible for both sides. Obviously they are pulling for Team Europe but they inspired us as well. It was unreal and so we appreciated it. It certainly was not the reason that we lost, because of the crowd. I think we play better and we are more inspired. So it was an awesome weekend."
Analyzing his loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday in singles, Taylor Fritz said: "I had a really slow start. Just that first games, couple forehand mistakes that I just wouldn't normally make. And then, you know, definitely tough to come back from a break immediately down. He was serving well. Definitely took me some time to get used to his ball, his serve, kind of the patterns we were playing in the rallies, what was going to work for me. So I came out in the second set feeling pretty on his serve and I feel like I knew what I was trying to do with my patterns and just playing a lot better, kind of feeling used to his ball. And so I played really well in the second set. Really imposed my game well on him and, you know, I didn't give him much."
