Rafael Nadal will miss Shanghai: Hopeful on other events

He was beaming with the other teammates from Team Europe and Team World in Geneva, Switzerland at the Laver Cup. But on the day he arrived, he started having left wrist ailments. He was only able to play two days and after that supported his comrades and enjoyed the Laver Cup from the bench. The U.S. Open for Rafael Nadal was splendor as he dueled in the final round with Daniil Medvedev and did a brilliant job of dismantling the young Russian's game. He'd win over his feisty competitor in a 5 set battle leaving him happy but exhausted on accomplishing another 4th title Open feat in Flushing Meadows.
But participation in the Shanghai Masters was his feast and unfortunately for the second straight year he had to bow out. Last year wasn't good for Nadal injury-wise. It was at the 2108 U.S. Open that he had a knee sustained a knee injury causing him to miss the China Open and Shanghai. This year it's a wrist situation which he had to apologize for. "I am very sad to announce that I won't be able to play in Shanghai...as you all probably know, I had an inflammation on my left wrist during the Laver Cup and I haven't had the time to recover and practice...hope to be back in Shanghai for the 2020 tournament," he had said at a media event. Wrist ailments are no stranger to Rafa as he had to withdraw from the French Open three years ago saying sadly that "...I have a problem in my wrist. I arrived here with a little bit of pain, but every day is a little bit worse...I played with an injection in the wrist...we tried to do the treatments...but after a while, I couldn't move much the wrist..."
