Dominic Thiem has a bigger artistry than Federer, Nadal, Djokovic -Wilander
On Eurosport the seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander praised the Dominic Thiem. The Swede said: "It's the best tennis I have ever seen him play. He is sticking to his game plan. In the past he may have overdone it. He is enjoying himself on the court and he is coming up with some absolutely ridiculous shots. The artistry of Dominic Thiem is beyond Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer because he has got the power, finesse and he comes up with some incredible shots. About Monfils, he stays little too far back and he is the best athlete probably we have ever had in our sport. You cannot change it all of a sudden, you cannot say, Okay, today against Thiem I will play on the baseline. Because he has never practiced that. And when you let the top players dictate like Monfils does, you have a horrible record against them."
On Simona Halep, Wilander added: "She is a good ball striker and she is gonna be a good player but Halep is a little bit too quick. Simona is much calmer and she does not necessarily have to think about winning the trophy."
Thiem said: "First of all, it's always still a pretty special thing to come to the second week, and of course even more special to win the quarterfinals. It's the best stage of the Grand Slam, it's an amazing thing, and I think it never gets old or I'm never getting used to it. And, yeah, it's a really good thing."
