Novak Djokovic on battling for year-end No. 1 spot
Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic says it is a privilege to fight for another major milestone as he hopes to reclaim the No. 1 spot at the Nitto ATP Finals and finish the year ranked at the top spot for the sixth time in his career.
Djokovic, a 16-time Grand Slam champion, won the Paris Masters title but it wasn't enough for him to keep his No. 1 place as Rafael Nadal of Spain returned to the top spot for the first time since October 2018.
Former 12-time Grand Slam champion and world No. 1 Pete Sampras holds the record for the most year-end No. 1 finishes, having ended the year ranked at the top spot six times.
'‘I think we all love tennis, we all love playing and care about performing well. Making history of this sport is a huge privilege and huge motivation, I’m happy to be in the position to fight for another great achievement," Djokovic said, per George Bellshaw of Metro UK.
An abdominal injury forced Nadal to pull out from his Paris semifinal clash and it remains to be seen will it affect the Spaniard's performances at the season-ending event.
