Brother Jacopo reveals big thing on Matteo Berrettini
In an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport the 21-year-old Jacopo Berrettini revealed a big thing on his brother Matteo who cracked the top ten rankings and played the ATP Finals in London for the first time this year.
"I played a big role when at ten years of age my brother wanted to stop tennis to commit to basketball or judo. He was not seeing a future, but I told him that if he had stopped, I would have done it too. Luckily he listened at me", said Jacopo. "I am proud of the nice things Matteo says of me. Compared to him, I have been more patient and I am happy he is becoming it too, because on court it allows me to be more focused on the more important things. We are very connected, I think that's good for both. And we are very lucky to have parents who always supported and protected us."
Asked when he realized that Matteo could have made a breakthrough, Jacopo replied: "Training with him earlier this year. I was lucky to hit as a hitting partner in Rome against guys like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal and what hits you the most is how fast and heavy their ball is. Matteo is like them. It was just about giving him more time."
