Dutch National Champion Scott Griekspoor Retires from Tennis
Reigning Dutch national champion Scott Griekspoor has decided to retire from professional tennis. In the final of the Dutch Championships last year, Griekspoor defeated fellow Dutchman Jelle Sels in the final.
Griekspoor was ranked as high as No. 205 last year but is currently ranked No. 459 in the ATP world rankings in singles and No. 1188 in doubles. He made an appearance in the Davis Cup for Greece last year, going down in three sets to Canadian Milos Raonic in Canada. He was coached by Kristof Vliegen, who also coached his brothers.
He also has a twin brother, Kevin Griekspoor, who last played on the tour in 2017. His younger brother, Tallon Griekspoor, is still playing on the tour and is ranked No. 180 in the world rankings currently. Tallon is currently 23 years old and was ranked as high as No. 161 in September.
During his career, Griekspoor won 12 ITF singles titles and 1 ATP Challenger title - last year at the Blois Challenger. He has also won 5 ITF doubles titles, including one each with his brothers. His last titles on the tour came in 2018 when he won 3 ITF singles titles and the Blois Challenger.
Scott's last match on the ITF circuit was a first-round loss at the ITF $25K event in Rodez, France in October where he lost to Evan Furness in straight sets and also in the first round of the doubles event. He won more than $14K in prize money this year and a total of $120K during his career.
