Elina Svitolina: 'Gael Monfils and I see each other almost every week'

In an interview, Elina Svitolina spoke about how counting on her boyfriend Gael Monfils's support in tournaments can help her mentally. The Ukrainian said: "I do not always look at him when he is there but his support is always important. Together, we only play big tournaments. But we are on the top ten rankings and since we play only major events we see each other almost every week."

On how she works on her physical strength, Svitolina added: "Definitely two years ago I was quite strong already, but I think in a different way. I have a little bit different maybe game style now. I have a better serve. I'm serving stronger. We can see that on the monitor. My serve is now stronger than it was before. I think now for sure there been some struggle in the middle of the season where I was struggling with injury. It's tough to say. Now I'm coming back to playing better and moving better. That's a huge step for me, for my confidence, my fitness. I will have to take time in the season to do proper recovery and to strengthen my legs. That's going to be the priority for the off-season."

On how she deals with the jet lag, Svitolina concluded: "I think the most important thing is to get enough sleep, try to drink as much water as you can. Sometimes try to stay awake, try to fight it. Maybe go to the gym. That's one of the things to fight, to stay awake."
