Roger Federer undergoes arthroscopic right knee surgery, pulling out of Dubai

World no. 3 Roger Federer underwent arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday in Switzerland, dealing with an injury for quite some time now and deciding to take the necessary measures and take the pain way. As a result, the 20-time Major champion will skip the upcoming ATP 500 event in Dubai where he claimed the 100th ATP title a year ago and all the tournaments before June and the grass season. Thus, Roger will lose a lot of points in the upcoming months, playing in the final in Indian Wells and conquering the crown in Miami a year ago before embracing the first clay swing in three years that led him towards the semi-final at Roland Garros.

Roger has played only one tournament so far in 2020, battling past John Millman (was 8-4 down in the deciding match tie break) and fending off seven match points against Tennys Sandgren to reach the last four in Melbourne. Dealing with a groin injury, Roger couldn't do much against the defending champion Novak Djokovic who toppled him in straight sets en route to the eighth Australian Open crown, not losing a Grand Slam match to Roger since 2012. Federer will try to bounce back on his beloved grass, entering Halle and Wimbledon ahead of Tokyo trip, seeking the first singles gold medal at the Olympic Games. 

"My knee has been bothering me for a little while now. I hoped it would go away but after an examination and discussion with my team, I decided to have arthroscopic surgery in Switzerland on Wednesday. After the prcedure, the doctors confirmed it was the right thing to have done and are very confident of a full recovery. As a result, I will, unfortunately have to skip Dubai, Bogota, Indian Wells, Miami and the French Open. I'm grateful for everyone's support. I can't wait to be back playing again soon, see you on the grass."
