Proof that Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are strikingly similar

It has been discussed for years who is the greatest among Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, The Big Three of the ATP Tour, but a new piece of data shows that the three legends of the tennis world have very similar performances, especially regarding Grand Slams.

As Novak Djokovic’s 33rd birthday rapidly approaches, we decided to look at a few stats to find out how many Grand Slams each of the Big Three have bagged before their 33rd birthday. And here things got very interesting. It looks like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have all had exactly 17 Grand Slams in their track record when they turned 33.

Obviously, each of the slams have different weights from player to player. Until Federer reached 33 – that’s almost 6 years ago – he had bagged 4 Australian Open tournaments, 1 French Open, 7 Wimbledon championships and 5 US Open events. Rafael Nadal, who will be 34 years old on June 3rd, had won 1 Australian Open title, 11 French Open titles, 2 Wimbledon championships and 3 US Open titles, before he turned 33.

Regarding Novak Djokovic, who will turn 33 on the 22nd of May, things are simple. The Serbian has won so far 17 Grand Slams: 8 Australian Open, 1 French Open, 5 Wimbledon and 3 US Open titles.

In conclusion, if we leave out the age differences, we can’t say that any of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic is the best. However, we can see that each of them feels better at certain slams – Federer at Wimbledon, Nadal at Roland Garros and Djokovic at Australian Open.
