He wins the debut match against English Evans in three sets but gives in the quarterfinals, after missing a match point, to Georgian Basilasvili.

In the spring, after the fleeting appearance at the 250 Genevan, which sees him eliminated at his debut, he returns to face a Grand Slam. At Roland Garros, credited with the eighth seed, he eliminated Istomin in three sets and Cilic and Koepfer in four, gaining access to the second round against Berrettini, from whom, however, he retired in order not to tire his knee too much after the long stop and be able to best present on grass. However, even in Halle and Wimbledon, as we all know by now, things went badly. Then came the withdrawal from Tokyo.
