‘I was ready for a battle,’ says Muguruza as she splashes Tomljanovic in Melbourne

It took three sets for the former World No. 1, 26-year-old charismatic Caracas glam, Gabrine Muguruza to find her way in to the third round of the 2020 Australian Open following a rattling battle against the home favourite Croatian-borne Aussie national, Ajla Tomljanovic.

In point of fact, the Venezuela-borne Spanish marvel, Muguruza, had to battle should-to-should on Thursday (January 23rd) to snatch a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory against the 26-year-old Croatia-borne Aussie to power her way in to the third round where she would take on the Fifth Seed, 25-year-old Ukrainian, Elina Svitolina on Saturday (January 25th).

Meanwhile, adding the 26-year-old Spaniard fab had a precise mindset for a tough second-round battle against the Zagreb-borne home favourite Tomljanovic, Gabrine Muguruza said in a post-match press conference on Thursday (January 23rd), “I'm happy to win matches like this where there's stuff going on and you've got to hang in there. I was expecting a tough match because we have played before and I saw she was having good matches. So I was ready for a battle. She did push me and I pushed her. At the end on the third set, it was very close for both of us. I was just happy the way I played and how I managed to close it up on those, in those final games.”
